What is a lead list?

A lead list is a collection of contacts your outbound Blue will call. Each lead includes at minimum a phone number, and optionally a name, company, email, and custom notes the agent can reference during the call.

Outbound Blues work through a lead list sequentially, respecting your configured calling window and compliance settings.

Step 1 — Go to Leads

  1. In your dashboard, navigate to Leads.
  2. Click New Lead List and give it a descriptive name (e.g. "Q2 Demo Prospects" or "Re-engagement — March").

Step 2 — Add leads

Option A: Add manually

  1. Open the lead list and click Add Lead.
  2. Enter the contact's phone number in E.164 format (e.g. +12025550147), name, and any optional fields.
  3. Click Save.

Option B: Import via CSV

  1. Click Import CSV on the lead list page.
  2. Your CSV must include a phone column. Supported optional columns: name, email, company, notes.
  3. Phone numbers can be in E.164 format (+12025550147) or 10-digit US format (2025550147) — BlueSales normalizes them automatically.
  4. Upload the file and review the import preview. Rows with invalid numbers are flagged before import.
  5. Click Confirm Import.

Tip: Keep your CSV headers lowercase and without spaces. Example: phone, name, email, company, notes

Step 3 — Attach the lead list to a Blue

  1. Go to OwnedBlues and open your outbound Blue (or create one via Blues → Outbound).
  2. In the Blue's settings, find Lead List and select the list you just created.
  3. Save the Blue. It will begin working through the list during the next active calling window.

Lead statuses

Each lead in a list has a status that updates automatically as the Blue makes calls:

  • Pending — not yet contacted
  • Called — call was placed and completed
  • No Answer — call was not picked up; the Blue will retry based on your retry settings
  • Voicemail — voicemail was left
  • Opted Out — contact asked to be removed; they will not be called again
  • Converted — lead marked as successful outcome

Managing retries

In your outbound Blue's settings, you can configure how many times the agent retries a no-answer lead and the minimum gap between attempts. The default is 2 retries with a 4-hour gap.

Leads with Opted Out status are permanently excluded regardless of retry settings.

Compliance reminder

Before running any outbound campaign, make sure your leads have provided prior express written consent to be called by an autodialer. See Understanding TCPA compliance before dialing for full guidance.

Common issues

My CSV imported but some leads are missing

Rows with unparseable phone numbers are skipped. Download the import error report from the leads page to see which rows failed and why.

The Blue is not calling anyone

Check that: (1) the lead list is attached to the Blue, (2) the Blue is set to Active, and (3) the current time falls within your configured calling window.

A lead called back and wants to opt out

Open the lead list, find the contact, and set their status to Opted Out. This is immediate and permanent for that lead.
